James Smallwood for National FOP Treasurer
At the 2020 National Fraternal Order of Police fall board of trustees meeting, our National Treasurer, Brother Tom Penoza, announced that after more than thirty years of serving on the national board, he would not be seeking re-election. For any of you that have served in any leadership position in the FOP, you know what a tremendous commitment and achievement this is. I would like to thank Brother Penoza for his dedication and commitment to our order over the years and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
With this information, I am excited to announce to all of you that I am running to be the next National Treasurer. My previous experience as Treasurer of a large lodge provides the critical insight necessary to understand the details of performing the duties on the national level. Having managed several large accounts – including 501©8, 501©3, PAC’s and investment accounts – I have the valuable experience necessary to manage the complexities that come with this national position. I later advanced to the position of President of the Nashville lodge and currently serve in that role. I also serve as the chairman of the National FOP Marketing committee, as a Commissioner on President Trumps Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice, as a member of Governor Bill Lee’s Law Enforcement Task Force and as a Sergeant with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
These various roles have brought with them a unique mixture of experience and perspective that I believe will be beneficial to our order in these challenging times. As an active police officer, I know what we are facing every day on the streets and how the FOP can help our profession advance. As a lodge leader, I know the challenges our order is facing, and I work every day to ensure we are stronger together. As the national marketing chair, I strive to ensure our national message is strong and focused; that we continue to engage the communities we serve, and our voice is being heard.
You have seen first-hand my passion and commitment for our great order. I want to bring that same commitment to our national board and continue to advance our great profession and organization. I humbly ask for your support in my bid to become the next National Treasurer and I promise you that, through all the work you have seen thus far, the best is yet to come!
